Tucson, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The third-ranked Arizona Wildcats continue a five-game homestand on Saturday when they play host to the Michigan Wolverines in a non-conference matchup at the McKale Center. Sean Millers Wildcats are a perfect 9-0 on the season, with a Maui Invitational tournament title in tow. The team also has a marquee win over top-10 foe Gonzaga (66-63 OT) and is coming off an 87-56 blasting of Utah Valley last time out. The win over Utah Valley marked the 27th straight home victory for Arizona. John Beileins Wolverines began the season in the Top-25 and opened with four straight victories. However, the team has gone just 2-3 since and enters this contest off inexplicable back-to-back losses to NJIT (72-70) and Eastern Michigan (45-42). This marks the 10th all-time meeting between these two storied programs. The Wildcats hold a 7-2 series advantage and have won two straight meetings, including a 72-70 decision in Ann Arbor last season. The two losses to what looked like inferior foes coming in has to be reason for concern in Ann Arbor. To make matters worse, both losses came at the Crisler Center, a usual safe haven for the home team. In the loss to EMU last time out, Michigan simply could not get into an offensive rhythm, shooting an ugly 14-of-43 from the floor (.326) overall. Caris LeVert and Zak Irvin tallied 10 points each for Michigan, but received little help elsewhere. The last two games have really taken a toll on Michigans bottom line in terms of stats. The Wolverines come into this contest shooting a modest .444 from the field and are putting up 70.7 ppg. The team continues however, to do a good taking care of the ball (9.2 turnovers per game), and holds a +5.4 turnover margin as a result. LeVert is the straw that stirs the drink for Michigan, leading the team in scoring (17.7 ppg), rebounding (5.4 rpg), assists (4.1 apg) and steals (2.2 spg). Irvin (15.4 ppg) and Derrick Walton Jr. (12.1 ppg) provide scoring depth. A deep scoring pool is something that Arizona is enjoying presently, as there is less than six points per game separating the top scorer and the No. 6 scorer on the roster. Overall, the Wildcats are generating 76.0 ppg and doing son on nearly 50 percent shooting (.498). Stanley Johnson has made an immediate impact as the freshman forward is averaging a team-best 13.8 ppg, while ranking second on the team with 6.4 rpg. Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (12.7 ppg, 6.7 rpg) is superb coming off the bench. Brandon Ashley (11.6 ppg) is also posting a double-digit scoring average, while Gabe York (8.3 ppg), T.J. McConnell (8.0 ppg) and Kaleb Tarczewski (8.0 ppg) make contributions as well. It was a balanced and potent attack that helped Arizona blow by Utah Valley last time out. The Wildcats shot a scorching .596 from the floor overall and had four players notch double figures in the win. Johnson led the way with 14 points. Dusan Ristic finished with 13, followed by Hollis-Jefferson and York, who tacked on 12 and 11 points, respectively. Shane Ray Jersey . He has come through every time and remains a favourite to play for his fourth career world title on the weekend. Hi Kerry, So Shawn Thornton gets a slap on the wrist for the water squirting incident - a childish, unsportsmanlike and potentially dangerous act, but players can get two minutes for spraying the goalie with snow when sometimes inadvertently just trying to stop quickly? Fuld hit a tiebreaking, two-run single off Javy Guerra in a three-run seventh inning, and the Twins defeated the Chicago White Sox 4-3 Sunday to avoid a four-game sweep. "Its easy to fold up and get down, but we stuck with it, fought and came up with a win," Fuld said. Danny Santana had two RBIs for the last-place Twins, who won for just the 11th time in their last 30 games. Perkins loaded the bases in the ninth, and it looked like Minnesotas 10-game homestand was going to end with yet another frustrating defeat. But Perkins retired Gordon Beckham on a flyout for his 25th save in 28 chances. The Twins averted getting swept by the White Sox in a four-game series for the first time in franchise history. "Winning one isnt a great consolation prize, but its better than losing," Perkins said. "Hopefully itll give us a little momentum. We came back, we battled back." Chicago led 2-1 in the seventh when Minnesota loaded the bases against Ronald Belisario (3-7) on walks to Josh Willingham and Eric Fryer around a single by Chris Parmelee. Belisario threw two pitches to Willingham, then was told by umpires to remove a bracelet and cut off a resin-scuffed part of his sleeve. "Yeah, I got mad because I always wear it like that. Whatever," Belisario said. Chicago manager Robin Ventura didnt think the incident had anything to do with the Twins comeback. "You just cant put two guys on in that situation. You put yourself in a bind," he said. "We gave them an opportunity there." Guerra relieved and retired Eduardo Escobar on a foulout, and Santana hit a tying sacrifice fly just deep enough to left-centre field. Fuld followed with a line-drive single up the middle and was thrown out at second when he tried to advance. Adrian Nieto homered in the Chicago eighth off Casey Fien. It was Nietos first homer in 76 career big league at-bats. Jared Burton (2-2) pitched a scoreless inning in relieff of Yohan Pino, who didnt allow a hit until two outs in the fifth and wound up giving up two runs and four hits in six innings.dddddddddddd Chicago rookie Jose Abreu had two hits, extending his hitting streak to 17 games, and drove his 79th run, second in the major leagues behind Detroits Miguel Cabrera. White Sox starter Scott Carroll allowed one run and four hits in six innings, leaving after just 78 pitches with a blister on his middle finger. "I wasnt able to fully finish pitches like I wanted to. We thought it was best to call it after six," Carroll said. Santanas RBI triple in the third gave Minnesota its first lead of the series. Chicago went ahead in the sixth on Alexei Ramirezs sacrifice fly and Abreus RBI double. When Minnesotas Oswaldo Arcia struck out ending the sixth, he snapped his bat over a knee, sending wood splinters flying around the batters box that were picked up by a batboy. "I would rather have him break it swinging than over his knee," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. Gardenhire also hopes Sundays win helps his team forget about a 3-7 homestand that knocked the Twins further out of contention. "A very disappointing homestand, but to get the win today was huge," Gardenhire said. "A lot of smiles out there, a lot of relief. That was probably as intense a ninth inning as youll get." NOTES: Twins 1B Joe Mauer (oblique) is to take batting practice at Target Field this week. ... Gardenhire wasnt worried about a setup for Paul McCartneys concert scheduled for Saturday getting in the way. "Hes going to hit it right through the drums," Gardenhire joked. ... MIAMI -- Theres no question that the city of Chicago was waiting, impatiently at times, to get Derrick Rose back. And the same could likely be said about the Bulls franchise. They werent alone. The NBA was waiting as well. When Roses comeback commences for real on opening night in Miami on Oct. 29 against the two-time defending champion Heat, theres no question the league will be savoring the return of one of its biggest sources of star power. Rose sells tons of jerseys, sells tons of tickets, gets more people watching on television and almost certainly will raise the quality of play in the Eastern Conference. Sure, its better for opponents when he spends an entire season in suits. For the game, its better when hes back on the floor. "Obviously, hes one of our better players in the league," said Heat All-Star guard Dwyane Wade, a native of Chicago. "You miss a guy as dynamic as that. The league as a whole missed him.. So Im sure for the city of Chicago, as hes a guy who really believes in and loves the city, Im sure theyre ecstatic. Having him back will bring a different kind of energy." Rose was the NBAs MVP in 2011, and has played in just 40 of the Bulls 166 games since because of a number of injuries -- the most serious of them being a torn-up left knee suffered in Chicagos first playoff game in 2012. Some suggested that because of his athleticism and commitment to rehabilitation, he would only miss a few months. By the time he returned to the court earlier in this preseason, more than 17 months had passed without Rose in uniform. By the time Rose plays in a game for real, it will be 18 months and 1 day since his knee gave way and rendered him to endless questions about why he could be practicing but not playing. Some of his NBA colleagues understood that logic. "I thought it was very smart of him not to rush back," Cleveland guard Jarrett Jack said. "Everybody kept thinking that just because it was an injury that happened last year that he should come back in the regular season. They didnt take into consideration that it happened so late in April and he would be walking a slippery slope to force himself back and then to try and be himself. "Thats the thing that people forget," Jack continued. "You dont want to come back and just be half of yourself. You want to come back and be at full strength." So Rose waited. The Bulls did better than many people expected without him, winning 45 regular-season games a year ago, ousting Brooklyn in the first round and taking Game 1 of a second-round series against Miami before falling in five games. And the off-the-court side of Rose seemed to flourish. He had the top-selling NBA jersey in China, Latin America and Europe last season. His jersey remains one of the most prominent -- and popular -- at the NBA Store in New York. All that came with the majority of Roses public displays of basketball being shooting and dribbling work on the floor before games, often working himself into a full sweat while his teammates were in the locker room making final preparations before starting warmups. "I think hes coming back stronger than ever," Atlanta forward Al Horford said. "Just from what Ive been hearing, hes anxious. He hasnt played in a year so hes going to be going after people." Thats been evident in this preseason. If someone with an MVP award on his resume needed a breakout preseason game, Rose got it last week against Indiana. He was vintage against one of Chicagos top rivals, with 32 points in just 31 minutes. He was aggressive, getting to the foul line. He created contact, just like he used to. He was strong defending on the ball. His jump shot looked better than ever. "Its definitely going to mean a lot to have him back," Minnesota forward Kevin Love said. "We obviously hope that when he plays the Timberwolves that he has an off game. He looks a lot stronger, he looks very confident and I think hes going to have a great year. He just looks really focused." By the end of the year, Indiana coach Frank Vogel will probably have seen enough of Rose, given that the Bulls and Pacers will probably be the top contenders in the Central Division. And if their four regular-season meetings werent enough, Chicago and Indiana squared off twice in this preseason as well. So Vogels already had a courtside seat from which to assess Roses return. "Same old Derrick Rose," Vogel said. Yep, hes back. Winless this season, Couples shot a 3-under 68 to reach 15-under 198 at TPC Harding Park. "I enjoy having a lead," Couples said. "Sometimes when you go and play with a lead, you try to expand it. If youre behind, every shot is important. I dont do well with that. Im just going to go out and play. For the most part its about stepping up and just hitting it." Mark OMeara was second after a 67. "Hell be hard to beat, no question, with his power and length," OMeara said about Couples. "I have no problems with Freddy at all, hes been great for the game." Fred Couples and Mark OMeara have known each other since both qualified for the PGA Tour in 1980. "The best things are the pairings," Couples said. "I get Mark OMeara and it couldnt get any better for me." Defending champion Tom Lehman had the best round of the day, a 65, to join Bart Bryant and Peter Senior at 9 under. Bryant shot 70, and Senior had a 72. Charles Schwab Cup points leader Kenny Perry was tied for seventh at 7 under after a 67. Bernhard Langer, needing a victory and help to catch Perry, also was 7 under after a 71. Couples opened the round with a bogey. He easily shook that off and worked his way under par for the day. "Its almost laughable," he said. "I could play that hole 100 times and alwayys make par.dddddddddddd Making a good drive on the first hit and not making par is ridiculous." Couples missed a 3-foot putt for par. "Im not going to get down on myself over my putts," Couples said. "I missed a lot of putts. The worst I could have shot today was what I shot. The first two rounds were my best of the year. Today was not as easy." OMeara played consistently well through the day, with his only hiccup a bogey on 17. He finished with a birdie on 18. "I drove the ball pretty well," OMeara said. "I had some good opportunities early in the round when I hit good putts that just missed the hole." OMeara recalled that Couples slept in his car during the first stage of the qualifying tournament in 19800, but was invited to stay with OMeara the final two or three days of Q-school. "Weve both had fairly parallel careers," OMeara said. "We both made it through Q-school and the rest is history." Couples and OMeara wound up playing together on the final day of Q-school in Fresno. "I was the last guy to make it make it," Couples said. "I think he was one shot better than me, but we both qualified and neither of us ever had to do that again." Couples said he was confident if one of his shots detoured into the rough. "I like this kind of rough," he said. "If you put me in the soft, fluffy stuff, I dont do very well. Here I can almost hit like little bunker shots. I just feel like I can get my club through this grass." cheap jerseys cheap jerseys china cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

NEW ORLEANS -- Anthony Davis and Brian Roberts proved a pair of second-year players can carry the young Pelicans to a victory over a veteran team with playoff aspirations. Davis had 27 points and 10 rebounds, Roberts scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half, and New Orleans beat the Atlanta Hawks 105-100 on Wednesday night. "Im always telling our guys, Everybody has written you guys off, so what do you have to lose? Just go out there and play. Ive got your back either way," Pelicans coach Monty Williams said. Paul Millsap had 26 points and 10 rebounds for the Hawks, who have lost two in a row. DeMarre Carroll added 22 points. "Roberts made some big shots," said Hawks guard Jeff Teague, who had 11 points and 13 assists. "We just got stagnant on defence. Our intensity on defence just wasnt there. We didnt play with attention to detail in the last couple of plays." Davis and Roberts made Atlanta pay, each scoring six points in the final 3:40. Davis has been stellar all season, and his performance against Atlanta marked the 16th time hes had at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in the same game. Roberts only recently moved into a starting role at point guard because of Jrue Holidays stress fracture in his right shin. Roberts made only one of five shots in the first half before turning in one of the best second halves of his young career. "Hes growing up and he understands when to make plays," Davis said. Roberts did have one glaring error when he had a turnover that led to a score during a late 7-0 Atlanta run that trimmed the Hawks 10-point deficit to three with a little less than a minute left. Roberts made up for it with a running, off-balance floater on New Orleans next possession to make it 100-95 with 20 seconds to go. "That was a tough turnover right there," Roberts said. "I just try to move on and focus on the next play. ... I was going to get it back and I was able to make that floater and finish them off." Eric Gordon added 18 points and Anthony Morrow 16 for the Pelicans, who have won six of their last nine games. Atlanta was in position to win when Mike Scotts 3-pointer capped an 8-0 run and gave the Hawks an 83-76 lead with 7:45 to play, but the Pelicans then ran off nine straight points to regain the lead. "Thats a tough loss for our group," Hawks coach Mike Budenholzer said, referring to his clubs blown fourth-quarter lead. "Our execution needs to improve when were in that situation." The Hawks led for the entire third quarter, taking their largest lead at 54-47 on Carrolls 3 12 seconds into the period. Scott hit four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points for the Hawks, while Lou Williams had 11 points. The teams stayed within single digits of each other for nearly the entire game. The largest lead for either team was 10 for New Orleans after Davis free throws late in the fourth quarter. That lead lasted all of 8 seconds before Scott hit a 3. Atlanta had 14 3s on 30 attempts from deep, with Carroll hitting four. The Hawks had one stretch in which they hit nine straight 3-point attempts -- their last four of the second quarter and first five of the third. The Pelicans, however, scored 20 points on free throws, while Atlanta had only 10. New Orleans also outrebounded Atlanta 50-38. Saturday, the same teams played a game that also featured very little defence. Once again, it was Detroit coming out on top, riding a combined 65 points and 20 assists from Brandon Jennings and Josh Smith to post a 126-109 victory. Randy Foye led the Nuggets with 25 points, while Wilson Chandler scored 20 and J.J. Hickson added 15 points and 16 rebounds. Denver lost point guard Ty Lawson to a fractured rib late in the first half. Evan Fournier replaced him at the start of the second half, with Foye moving from shooting guard to the point, and Denver wasnt able to keep up the scoring pace. "You could see it take the wind out of us when Ty came out of the game," Nuggets coach Brian Shaw said. "Hes our floor leader and hes the one who controls the pace and the tempo of the game. Hes also the best guy we have to stay in front of Jennings." Still, Detroit needed to put up its highest point total in regulation since March 18, 2008, when they scored 136 against, of course, the Nuggets. "Thats a product of the way Denver plays," Pistons coach Maurice Cheeks said. "Were not used to playing at that kind of pace, but we stepped up and made the adjustments to stay with them." The win was a victory of sorts for embattled Pistons President Joe Dumars, who saw his two big off-season acquisitions put up big numbers. Jennings had a season-high 35 points and 12 assists -- the first Piston to do that since Isiah Thomas in 1988 -- while Smith had 30 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. "I think that pushing the ball and making it an up-tempo game made it easier to get the shots that weve been looking for," Smith said. "Guys were setting screens, we were communicating and talking on defence, and it was good. Its fun to be part of something when were doing it the right way." Jennings also hit six 3-pointers, something he has struggled with all season. His outside shooting was important on a night when Denver hit 15 3s and Jennings teammates only combined for two.dddddddddddd Rodney Stuckey added 19 points for Detroit, while Andre Drummond had 18 points and 15 rebounds. "Were not going to win too many games when we give up 126 points," Shaw said. With both teams on the second night of back-to-back games, it was clear early that this was not going to be a defensive struggle. The Nuggets jumped out to a quick lead by hitting their first four 3-point attempts, but Detroit was able to get to the rim at will, scoring 40 points in the paint before halftime. Chandler and Foye combined for 23 points in the half -- 21 on 3-pointers -- but Denver had to adjust their attack with Lawson on the bench. The Nuggets turned the ball over twice in the opening moments of the third quarter, but Hickson pulled down six rebounds in the first three minutes of the period to keep Denver in the game. Denver was within 97-86 at quarters end, putting the pressure on a Detroit team that has struggled all season to hold fourth-quarter leads. Sure enough, even though Shaw had to go to Randolph and Jordan Hamilton, the Nuggets used an 8-0 lead to pull within 106-100 with 7:14 to play. Detroit forced enough turnovers to end Denvers surge and Jennings iced the game with a pair of late 3-pointers. "We are just being careless with the ball," Foye said. "As a team, we have to do a better job of fighting. We can make shots and we can make threes, but when it comes down to making stops, we have to do that, too." NOTES: Will Bynum did not play for the second straight game, and hasnt been on the floor since an argument with Cheeks during a loss in Orlando on Wednesday. ... MINNEAPOLIS -- Oswaldo Arcia -- and about everyone else at Target Field -- had time to admire his three-run home run in the fourth inning that hit close to the top of the pole in right field. The young slugger made a stronger impression and an even bigger impact two at-bats later. Arcia had four RBIs, including the go-ahead single in the seventh, to push the Minnesota Twins past Milwaukee 6-4 on Wednesday night for their seventh win in the last eight meetings with the Brewers. Arcia went deep for the third time in 10 games since his recall from Triple-A to give the Twins a 3-1 lead. Through translator and teammate Eduardo Nunez, Arcia said he waited at the plate for several seconds to watch the ball soar because he knew it was close to hooking foul. "He thinks it was a home run, right away," Nunez said. Said manager Ron Gardenhire: "Pretty impressive. Hes a strong young man." After Aramis Ramirez tied the game with a three-run homer in the seventh inning against Ricky Nolasco (4-5), the Brewers brought in lights-out left-hander Will Smith to face Arcia after Josh Willingham had doubled with two outs against Rob Wooten (1-3). Arcia hung in there long enough to stroke a 2-2 slider into right field to drive in Willingham, who forced in an earlier run against starter Marco Estrada with a bases-loaded walk. Arcia, who swung and missed at the same slider one pitch earlier, took second on the throw home to get in position to score on a single by Trevor Plouffe. That was just the second earned run against Smith all season and the first in 15 games. "Against Will Smith, not many left-handers are going to hit his breaking ball," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. But Arcia did, picking up Nolasco and the Twins. Nolasco, who retired 13 straight batters until consecutive singles by Jonathan Lucroy and Carlos Gomez to start the seventh, recovered after Ramirezs wallop to finish the inning. Nolasco struck out seven without a walk while allowing six hits, another step forward from an awful first month with the Twins after signing the richest free agent contract in club history. "They made me pay. Thats what this lineup can do, quick," Nolasco said, adding: "Im not going to take one pitch and ruin my night." Glen Perkins pitched a perfect ninth for his 16th save in 18 chances. Ramirez started the season strong but was slumping badly when he strained his left hamstring 22 games ago, and the first-place Brewers havent missed a beat without him, with Mark Reynolds and his 13 home runs at third base. "Thats what Im here for, to drive in runs and help the team," Ramirez said. The Brewers started this string of 15 of 18 games on the road with the lead after consecutive two-out doubles by Rickie Weeks and Reynolds in the second, but for the second straight game the Twins had success against part of what has been a sturdy rotation for the Brewers. The return of Willingham and Arcia to the heart of the order after missing a combined 74 games with wrist injuries and rehab assignments was a big boost for the Twins last week, and they gave Estrada trouble. Home plate umpire Andy Fletcher gave Estrada some trouble, too, with several close calls going against the right-hander. "They just werent going our way," Estrada said. NOTES: The four-game burst between the border-state rivals finishes Thursday, with Wily Peralta (4-5, 2.73 ERA) pitching for the Brewers and Kevin Correia (2-6, 5.87 ERA) taking the mound for the Twins. Peralta is 0-4 in his last five starts, but with a 3.64 ERA. Correia lost to Mashiro Tanaka and the Yankees in New York last week while giving up just one run in six innings. Both teams will wear throwback uniforms from the 1980s, with the Twins in their powder-blue road jerseys from that era. ... But Roenicke said his ideal order is Gomez leading off. The Brewers have used at least four different players in each of the nine spots this season. OReilly had a goal and an assist to lift the Colorado Avalanche over the Florida Panthers 3-2 on Friday night. OReilly wasted little time in making his presence felt. His goal came at 1:34 in. Matt Duchene missed a wraparound shot but OReilly grabbed the rebound and sneaked it past Thomas in the corner of the net to make it 1-0. The goal was OReillys team-leading 19th, a new career high, and his fifth in the past six games. "If you put doubt in their minds, thats a huge thing. Getting a couple early is always going to set them back," OReilly said. "We started good and that start won it for us." Jamie McGinn and Paul Stastny also scored for Colorado and Semyon Varlamov made 34 saves. Colorado won for the fifth time in six games. Scottie Upshall scored twice for Florida. Tim Thomas stopped 22 shots. The Panthers lost for the first time in three games. Trailing 3-0, the Panthers scored twice in the third to make it interesting. The Panthers made it 3-1 on Upshalls goal at 5:18 of the third. Tomas Fleischmann swept the puck from behind the net to Upshall in the crease. Upshall pushed the puck past Varlamovs right leg and into the net for his 100th career goal. Tom Gilberts slap shot with 1:43 left in the game from the point deflected off Upshalls foot and past Varlamov, who was screened on the play, and made the score 3-2. "We were playing desperate. I thought we picked up our pace. We were kind of carrying the momentum," Upshall said. The Panthers outsshot Colorado 20-6 in the final period, including 15-0 in the last 13:13.dddddddddddd. "We certainly had urgency in the third. We had a ton of chances to tie it up and it didnt happen," Panthers coach Peter Horachek said. Colorado stretched its lead to 3-0 in the second. OReilly passed from behind the net to McGinn in front and he fired it past Thomas on the stick side with 7:00 left in the period. "Hes been outstanding," McGinn said of OReilly. "Hes been consistent every game. He works hard, on and off the ice and its paying off." Colorado is 26-0-2 when leading after two periods. "We were outstanding in the first two periods.Unfortunately the third was not as good and this is something we have to be better at," Avalanche coach Patrick Roy said. Colorado took a 2-0 lead on Stastnys goal. Gabriel Landeskog passed from the left boards to Stastny in front and he backhanded it past Thomas at 16:13 of the first. In the third period, the Panthers set a dubious franchise record of 38 power play attempts without a power play goal, dating to Nov. 10-Dec. 1, 2010. "All the reports were this guy is a legitimate middle

MINNEAPOLIS -- Kendrys Morales is on his way back to Seattle to try and give the Mariners struggling offence a boost as they chase a playoff spot. Devin Smith Jersey . The Minnesota Twins traded Morales to the Mariners on Thursday for minor-league pitcher Stephen Pryor. Morales hit 23 home runs and drove in 80 runs for the Mariners last season, but turned down a $14.1 million qualifying offer from Seattle to become a free agent. "Hes a professional hitter," Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon said. "He gives us the opportunity to stretch out our lineup, so to speak. Hes a nice fit, switch-hitter, hitting behind Robbie (Cano). "He gives us options, what we want to do with (Kyle) Seager, where we want to hit him," McClendon said. "I like it." Morales sat out the first two months of the season while searching for a new deal, signing a pro-rated $12 million contract with the Twins on June 8. But he hit .234 with 11 doubles, one homer and 18 RBIs in 39 games with the Twins, who have faded from contention in the AL Central. The Mariners, who started the day with a half-game lead for the second wild-card spot in the AL, are hoping a return to Safeco Field could help Morales rediscover his swing. Seattle has the best ERA in the majors, but the Mariners offence is 14th in the American League in runs scored. Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik said missing spring training and the first two months of the season has had an impact on Morales slow start. He believes hes close to his hitting stride. "I dont think there is any question about that," Zduriencik said. "I thought it was interesting that he went right to the big leagues but that plays a part in the negotiations. "Nevertheless, when you look at where hes at right now, we know what Kendrys is, we know his career as a hitter, we know what he did here and now that hes in a pennant race and technically has spring training under his belt -- he did it at the major league level -- I think we all feel that Kendrys is going to hit his stride and be the Kendrys Morales we all know," he added. Morales was signed by the Twins to be the everyday designated hitter, but he played a lot of first base while filling in for the injured Joe Mauer. "I think he was a good teammate. I think he was a good influence on some of the players in this clubhouse. He got off to a surprisingly quick start and then cooled off, of course," Twins GM Terry Ryan said. "We gave it a shot. Obviously, our club hasnt responded." In the first sign that the Twins are starting to look at selling some of their veteran pieces to retool for next season, they acquired the 25-year-old Pryor in the exchange. Pryor has appeared in 34 games for the Mariners since 2012, posting a 2.81 ERA. He will report to Triple-A Rochester. Pryor, who once regularly had his pitches clocked at 100 mph, started this season on the disabled list after having surgery to repair a torn right latissimus dorsi muscle. He made one appearance for the Mariners this season. He was 2-2 record with a 5.71 ERA in 34 2-3 innings for Triple-A Tacoma this season. The Twins also recalled infielder Jorge Polanco from Class A Fort Myers. Jace Amaro Jets Jersey .J. -- Waiting to get their hands on the Lombardi Trophy, the Seahawks were surrounded by security guards in orange jackets. Antonio Allen Jersey . The deal is pending a physical, assistant general manager Bobby Evans said. Traded from Seattle to Baltimore on Aug. 30, Morse also can play first base and right field to give manager Bruce Bochy some flexibility in writing his lineup. DENVER -- D.J. LeMahieus bat upstaged his glove as the defensive specialist transformed into an offensive catalyst. LeMahieus two-run single broke a tie in a six-run eighth inning, sending the Colorado Rockies to a 10-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. He finished with three hits, including an RBI double in the sixth that tied the game at 4. Buoyed by his big day -- on an afternoon he was honoured for his work in the field last season, no less -- LeMahieu helped the Rockies take two of three in the series. "Felt good to come through," said LeMahieu, who drove in a career-high three runs. Colorado broke open a tight game in the eighth with its biggest inning this season. Justin Morneau started the rally with a single off Scott Downs (0-2), who was pulled for reliever Ronald Belisario. The Rockies sent 10 batters to the plate, and LeMahieu had a clutch hit to centre. Pinch-hitter Josh Rutledge and Michael Cuddyer added run-scoring singles, while Carlos Gonzalez hit a two-run double down the line. Rex Brothers (1-0) got two outs in the eighth to earn the win. "Need to keep the momentum," Gonzalez said. The momentum shifted in the sixth. Morneau led off with a double and hustled to third after left fielder Dayan Viciedo bobbled the ball on the warning track. Starter Erik Johnson retired the next two hitters and appeared he might escape the jam when LeMahieu lined a ball at right fielder Avisail Garcia. Earlier in the game, Garcia robbed LeMahieu of a hit on a similar play. So LeMahieu figured Garcia would come up with this diving catch, too. "Thought I was out," LeMahieu said. Garcia leapt forward and had the ball in his glove, but when he landed, the ground jarred the ball loose, allowing Morneau to trot home with the tying run. Garcia stayed on the ground for several minutes with a jammed left shoulder before walking slowly to the dugout. The team said X-rays were negative for a fracture or a separation. "Right now I have pain," said Garcia, whos scheduled for an MRI on Thursday. Chicago didnt ask for a video review to determine whether Garcia possiibly held the ball long enough for an out. New York Jets Jersey. "You really have to have a positive view of whether it was a catch," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "You have to have the glove around the ball to be a catch." Chicagos bullpen melted down, giving up six runs in 2 1-3 innings. Belisario gave up five of the runs in the inning, then left with tightness in his back. "He got the ground balls. But they just kept finding the holes," Ventura said. "And it kept going, kept going after that." After struggling in the first two weeks of the season, Jose Abreu heated up at hitter-friendly Coors Field, where he almost wound up. Abreu was 2 for 4 with a double on Wednesday. He had four hits in the series, including his first two homers of the season. The Rockies made a strong push to obtain the Cuban slugger in October before he signed a $68 million, six-year contract with Chicago. Rockies manager Walt Weiss said Abreu was as good as advertised: "All the reports were this guy is a legitimate middle of the order bat. I think we saw that." Before the game, the Rockies recalled Rutledge from Triple-A Colorado Springs, giving the team a backup for shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, who has been bothered by tightness in his right quadriceps. Weiss gave Tulowitzki the day off just so hes not "run into the ground this early." To make room on the roster, Colorado optioned struggling right-handed reliever Wilton Lopez to Colorado Springs. Lopez has an 11.37 ERA in four games. NOTES: The White Sox open a seven-game homestand on Thursday against Cleveland, with LHP John Danks (0-0) slated to take the mound. ... 3B Conor Gillaspie had a two-run single for Chicago in the fifth. ... The Rockies have their first day off of the season Thursday before opening a three-game series in San Francisco. ... Weiss is hoping RHP Tyler Chatwood (hamstring) will be ready to rejoin the rotation on Sunday when hes eligible to come off the DL. ... Cuddyer has hit in all 10 games to start the season. ... TAMPA, Fla. Stephen Strasburg Jersey . -- After the Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning combined for 11 goals in four regular-season meetings, Dale Weise didnt expect them to score eight in the first 60 minutes of Game 1 Wednesday night. "But thats playoffs, anything can happen," he said. Anything, including Weise scoring his first career Stanley Cup playoff goal and first NHL overtime winner to give the Habs a 5-4 victory at Tampa Bay Times Forum and a 1-0 lead in the Atlantic Division semifinal series. "I cant remember the last time I had an overtime goal, so that one feels real good," Weise said. It was the kind of back-and-forth affair that bred unpredictability. The Lightning scored four times against Carey Price on 16 shots in regulation, and it seemed like any and every shot could go in. In overtime, the margin for error was almost non-existent. But thats exactly what playoff star Daniel Briere wanted to embrace. "You have to be ready, and thats the beauty of overtime," said Briere, who set Weise up for the winner 18:08 into overtime. "You cant make any mistakes. One shot can end it all." Tampa Bays Teddy Purcell and Montreals Max Pacioretty were close to doing it, but were thwarted by a diving Josh Gorges and the clank of the left post behind Anders Lindback, respectively. Ultimately, that shot belonged to Weise, who earlier in overtime might not have been in position to take it. "We had about two or three similar chances just before and the last shift I kind of backed off on a play. I didnt want to get caught," Weise said. "I came to the bench and (assistant coach Gerard Gallant) said, Dont be afraid to jump in on that one, and thats what I did. (Michael Bournival) and Danny make a great play there, and I wont miss too many from there." Weise and Briere were the heroes, but the games previous 78 minutes had plenty of players putting on an offensive show. Steven Stamkos scored twice to go along with Tampa Bay goals by Nikita Kucherov and Alex Killorn, while Tomas Plekanec, Brian Gionta, Lars Eller and Thomas Vanek scored for the Habs. The goals were even at four apiece at the end of regulation, but the shots were far from it. The Habs had 35 to the Lightnings 16, taking it to a Tampa Bay team that was so good at puck possession during the regular season. Michel Therriens team just wanted to play a "solid road game" and got that job done. "We kept our composure. We didnt want to get out of our game plan," Therrien said. "The guys stuck to the game plan and they got rewarded at the end. Thats the way I see it." The game didnt go the way some envisioned, specifically after these teams had such low-scoring matchups before. Price said he was not surprised but instead was frustrated he allowed four goals. "Every games different and you never know whats going to happen out there," Price said. "Its tough as a goaltender when teams are capitalizing on scoring chances and theyre getting so few." Price was at his best in overtime when he stopped all nine Lightning shots. Tampa had more shots in overtime than in any of the three previous periods but couldnt cash in. "I thought probably overtime was one of our better periods we played in that game," Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. "(But) we kept shooting ourselves in the foot time and time again." Mistakes made it a fun game, as eight Lightning players were making their playoff debut at the NHL level. The Habs had only one in Bournival. The inexperience of youth was noticeable at times. "We came out tentative and didnt want to make mistakes, but as the game went on we got more comfortable," Killorn said. "The turnovers at the blue-line cost us." At the end of the night, one defensive-zone mistake cost the Lightning and allowed the Habs to steal the first game on the road. Naturally it was Briere who knew what to expect in overtime and record his 110th playoff point in his 109th career playoff game. "You just have to stay focused," Briere said. "I had the feeling that something good was going to happen. Our line had too many scoring chances that at some point we were going to get a good result." NOTES -- Brandon Prust returned to the Habs lineup after missing the final 12 games of the regular season with a shoulder injury. ... Defencemen Douglas Murray and Jarred Tinordi and forwards George Parros, Alex Galchenyuk, Travis Moen and Ryan White were scratched for Montreal. ... Lightning forward Ondrej Palat did not take a shift after one early in the third period because of an upper-body injury. Cooper said he would be re-evaluated Thursday. ... Gaspe, Que., native Cedric Paquette made his playoff debut after playing his first NHL game, Tampa Bays 81st of the regular season.
