CLEVELAND -- As they debate what to do with the No. 1 draft pick, the Cavaliers made a significant first move in their coaching search. The team interviewed Chicago Bulls assistant coach Adrian Griffin for its coaching vacancy Tuesday, two people with knowledge of the meeting told the Associated Press. They spoke on condition of anonymity because of the private nature of the situation. Griffin is believed to be the first candidate to formally interview with the Cavs, who are looking for their third coach in three years after owner Dan Gilbert fired Mike Brown last month for the second time in four years. And while the team was meeting with Griffin, Florida coach Billy Donovan, who has reportedly been contacted by the Cavs, wouldnt promise he will return for another season in Gainesville. "I think when you start making guarantees about life and start making guarantees about where youre going to be, thats not good because if for some reason I ever change my mind and did something, I wouldnt want (people) saying, Well, he promised, he guaranteed, he said this on record," Donovan said at the Southeastern Conferences annual spring meetings. "I just think when you start doing that, thats a mistake." The 39-year-old Griffin wasnt drafted out of college, but he played for five teams during nine seasons in the NBA. He has been on Tom Thibodeaus staff in Chicago since 2010. He also worked under former Milwaukee coach Scott Skiles. Griffins background working with the defensive-minded Thibodeau and Skiles, and playing under Jeff Van Gundy and Don Nelson makes him an attractive choice to Gilbert, who believes defence wins championships. New Cavs general manager David Griffin has said he wants to find a coach with "the defensive background thats dyed in the wool of this franchise" and one with offensive openness. The Cavs, who defied long odds to win the NBA draft lottery last week, are not commenting during their coaching search. Soon after Brown was let go following a disappointing 33-49 season, Griffin was one of the first candidates to be linked to Clevelands opening. He has a good rapport with players, and can identify with life as a pro after being bounced around the league and playing in Europe. Griffin has been pursuing his doctorate in leadership studies while working as an assistant. Last week, a person familiar with the Cavaliers plans told the AP the club plans to interview Los Angeles Clippers assistant Alvin Gentry this week. He previously worked in Phoenix with David Griffin. The Cavs are also reportedly interested in meeting with Clippers assistant Tyronn Lue, and intend to interview former Memphis coach Lionel Hollins later this week. David Griffin recently said the Cavs would not limit themselves during the search and would consider coaches without any NBA experience. One of them could be Donovan, who said last week he has been approached by "several teams." On Tuesday, the Gators coach said hes committed to the school -- he signed a three-year extension in February -- but didnt rule out the chance to jump to the pros at some point. Donovan accepted Orlandos job in 2007 but changed his mind and returned to Florida six days later. While Donovan made it clear hes comfortable at the school, hes leaving his options open for the future. "All I can say is I love Florida, Im happy here ... the schools been great to me," he said. "But at the same point, some of the NBA stuff, as Ive said before, is intriguing in a lot of ways -- the basketball part of it. Thats not to say that Im unhappy here; thats not the case at all. "But when people start getting into forecasting where theyre going to be or what theyre going to do, and Ive seen a lot of coaches over the years come out and say, No, no, no, no, Im not going anywhere, Im not going anywhere, and then all of a sudden they go somewhere and its like, Well, this guy is a complete liar. I dont want to get into that situation. Theres been some teams that have called, but thats really it." Devin Smith Youth Jersey . "Ive got no idea," said Gibbons after the game when asked what Bautista was thinking. "Its not smart, winning baseball and Im sure he wont do it again." Anthony had one of his finest individual seasons, averaging 27.4 points and a career-best 8.1 rebounds in 77 games. But it stunningly amounted to nothing, as the Knicks were eliminated from playoff contention on Saturday night. "Weve chatted a little bit and I feel for him more than anybody, because the kind of season that he had, he deserves to be in the playoffs and I feel bad about that. I do," Knicks coach Mike Woodson said Tuesday. Anthony initially hurt the shoulder earlier this month but kept playing as the Knicks were trying to rally to grab the No. 8 seed. But Woodson was leaning toward not playing him Tuesday at Brooklyn or Wednesday at home against Toronto, even before Anthony had an MRI exam Tuesday that revealed the tear. "Obviously he knew it was bothering him whhen he hurt it a few weeks ago, but he hung in there with us and tried to make this last push to get in the playoffs," Woodson said.dddddddddddd The Knicks said Anthony would not require surgery at this point and would be evaluated in about a month. After that, the Knicks can only hope that when he can play again, its for them. Anthony said before the season began that he planned to opt out of his contract and become a free agent in July. New president Phil Jackson said he had no doubt that Anthony could be the central piece of the Knicks future, but Anthony will likely want to consider his options after missing the playoffs for the first time in his 11-year career. He will turn 30 next month and knows it will be tough for the Knicks to get much better next season, since they already face salary cap woes and wont have a lottery pick, having traded it to Denver in the deal to acquire him in 2011. Woodson said Amare Stoudemire would play against the Nets. cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

TORONTO -- Colin Doyle became just the fourth player in National Lacrosse League history to score 500 goals, scoring twice for the Toronto Rock as they held off the Minnesota Swarm 14-12 on Saturday. Toronto (4-4) took a 7-4 lead into the third quarter, and then outscored the visitors 6-0. The Swarm (1-7), however, made it close by outscoring the Rock 8-1 in the final quarter. Garrett Billings led the Rock with nine assists, while Stephan Leblanc and Josh Sanderson each had three goals. Rob Hellyer also scored twice for the Rock, and singles were produced by Jesse Gamble, Kasey Beirnes, Eithan OConnor and Damon Edwards. Jordan MacIntosh had five goals for Minnesota. Brock Sorensen and Kiel Matisz each scored twice for the Swarm. Matisz scored his goals in the 13th minute of the fourth quarter to cut Torontos lead to 13-11, before Gamble made it a two-goal game for Toronto. The Texas Rangers ace was even in a joking mood Tuesday at spring training. Darvish wisecracked that the New York Yankees might have paid too much for fellow Japanese right-hander Masahiro Tanaka by giving him a seven-year, $155 million contract on top of a $20 million posting fee to the Rakuten Golden Eagles. The deal made Darvish No. 2 when it comes to Japanese players in the majors: He has a six-year, $56 million deal signed before the 2012 season after the Rangers paid $51.7 million to Hokkaido for the right to negotiate with him. "I dont know the details of the posting system, but I think the Yankees gave him a little bit too much," Darvish said with a chuckle through his interpreter during his first spring training session with reporters. Even before the session was done, the remark was all over social media and the Rangers released a statement to make sure everyone knew Darvish was kidding. "I am sorry if anyone took my comment seriously about Masahiro Tanaka at the press conference," Darvish said in the statement. "I assumed by the reaction in the room that everyone knew I was joking." The 27-year-old Darvish could opt out of his contact after five years if he wins a Cy Young Award and potentially get a contract exceeding that of Tanaka. He came close last year, finishing second to Max Scherzer in the balloting after leading the majors with 277 strikeouts -- the most since Randy Johnson struck out 290 in 2004 with Arizona. Darvish, who manager Ron Washington has already named the opening day starter, was 13-9 with a 2.83 ERA in 32 starts last season. "If we score him runs, he might win 35 games and hess only going to get 32 starts," Washington said.dddddddddddd Darvish lost four 1-0 decisions, the first pitcher to do that in a season since Orel Hershiser with the 1989 Dodgers. "Never once did he ever make any whimpers of, Boy it sure would be nice to get some runs, never once," pitching coach Mike Maddux said. "Thats the kind of teammate he is. Hes going to go out and do the best he can and wants everyone else to the best they can." The Rangers averaged 3.08 runs per game in Darvishs final 23 starts. "The game is something you cant control, so you cant be pessimistic or optimistic," Darvish said. "The main thing is to keep yourself healthy. If youre healthy enough, I think numbers are going to follow. The outcome is something that is a result of having a healthy season. I cant really control what goes on in a game situation." Darvish went on the 15-day disabled list last July with a right shoulder strain and was bothered by back nerve irritation in September. Darvish said he shied away from heavy lifting during the off-season to help the back. His lack of fastball command, which gets his pitch count up early, has been a concern. "Youll probably see during the course of the season how much I have improved," Darvish said. "Im more relaxed and I can do many things at my own pace and Im aware of whats going on and people know me better than in the past." An improved Darvish could equate to a blockbuster contract. No joke. The Buffalo Sabres have said goodbye to Christian Ehrhoff. The team has bought out the remaining seven years of the German defenders contract, officially making him an unrestricted free agent. OTTAWA -- Already all but eliminated from playoff contention, the Ottawa Senators will now play the remainder of the season without their leading goal scorer. The Senators announced forward Bobby Ryan would undergo surgery in Montreal Thursday to repair a sports hernia. He will miss the final ten games of the regular season. "Bobby has been dealing with the discomfort of this injury since it was sustained in November," said Senators general manager Bryan Murray. "Both Bobby and our medical staff were hopeful that we could hold off from having surgery until the completion of the season, but he aggravated the condition last Saturday in Dallas to the point that surgery is now the only option." Ryan, who was acquired last July from the Anaheim Ducks, scored a team-leading 23 goals and had 48 points in 70 games. Ryan scored 18 of his 23 goals by Dec. 31 and there was much speculation as to what was the cause of his recent lack of productivity. It now appears the injury played a big factor. "Well he certainly started very, very well," said Murray on the Senators team website. "He shoots the puck awfully well, he scored some goals, his line obviously carried the team early on. He was a big part of that. "I think after the hernia started to get aggravated a little bit he seemed to shoot the puck a bit less. Overall, very happy and satisfied with his overall play and we know hell be a real contributor going forward." Ryans teammates were aware of the discomfort the winger was dealing with and offered their support. "He battled through it and tried to work through it and it was something they were trying to give him help and he played well through it," said linemate Kyle Turris. "It will be nice when hes healthy and feeling better and able to get back at it. "We knew it had been nagging him for a while and for him to battle through it and continue to try playing is something that we all respect him for." Ryans injury has created an opportunity for Mark Stone, who was recalled from Binghamton in the American Hockey League after Ryan aggravated the injury last weekend. "Theres still lots of hockey to be played and I want to make an impression and I want to stay up here," ssaid Stone, who has a goal and an assist in his last two games.dddddddddddd "I want to continue to play consistent hockey and stay up here for those ten games and hopefully make a good audition for next year." While the Senators will have to host the Chicago Blackhawks without Ryan on Friday, they will likely have Craig Anderson back in goal against the defending Stanley Cup champions. Anderson missed the last seven games after suffering an upper body injury due to a collision with teammate Milan Michalek in a game against the Nashville Predators March 10. Andersons injury came at a terrible time for the Senators, who were still within reach of one of the final wild card spots in the Eastern Conference. The Senators lost their next five games without Anderson and saw any playoff hope disappear. Anderson has served as Robin Lehners backup for the past two games and says hes ready to face the Blackhawks if called upon. Senators head coach Paul MacLean wouldnt name his starter for Fridays game. "If called upon Ill be the guy that gets in there, but well wait to see what the coach says," said Anderson. "Its been a while. I want to make sure when I get back in there that physically I feel 100 per cent and am able to help the team achieve victory that night." Defenceman Chris Phillips should also return to the lineup after missing the last game. Tampas Ryan Malone hit Phillips in a game Monday, and the two crashed hard into the boards. Phillips missed Tuesdays game against the Florida Panthers, but says he feels good and is ready to return. While the Senators are no longer in playoff contention Phillips says theres numerous reasons for the players to be at their best. "We still have games to play," said Phillips. "Everybodys fighting for a job, a contract, trying to prove to coaches and management that you should be here as well as the pride of wearing these jerseys. Were going to go out until the seasons over, whenever that may be, and we want to go out and play as good as we can on a nightly basis." Notes: C Mika Zibanejad says he should be ready to play Friday after missing the last game. SAN DIEGO -- Chad Billingsley knew he was on a short leash when he went back out to the mound to start the ninth inning. Sure enough, as soon as Billingsley gave up Cameron Maybins one-out single, Los Angeles manager Don Mattingly came out to get the right-hander. That was OK with Billingsley, who struck out 11 and allowed only three hits in the Dodgers 6-0 victory over the punchless San Diego Padres on Friday night. "You definitely never want to come out of the game, but it was like 110 pitches or so in your first game out and you dont want to go overboard in the first outing," Billingsley said. "You have 30-plus more starts." The impressive start by Billingsley (1-0) came a day after reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw came out after three innings because of the stomach flu in the Dodgers 5-3 season-opening win. Billingsley retired pinch-hitter Jeremy Hermida leading off the ninth before allowing Maybins single to left. Mattingly, accompanied to the mound by boos from Dodgers fans, summoned Jamey Wright to get the final two outs. Andre Ethier drove in four runs with a double and triple. "Bills, obviously right out of the gate, was really good," Mattingly said. "Andre gets us going with two in the first off a lefty. Really, both of those guys kind of set the tone for us." Even though Billingsley kept the Padres off-balance all night, Mattingly wasnt tempted to let him continue after Maybins single. Billingsley threw 108 pitches. "You just cant do it first time out," Mattingly said. "Im not going to let him run up to 120 the first time out of the gate. Hes probably been to 103 or something this year in spring training. He wanted to go back out in the ninth, but it was like, if anybody got on there ... Our biggest nightmare was having to get six or eight pitches to get an out. It really wasnt that hard of a thing at that point, at this point of the season. "He didnt throw many bad balls," Mattingly said. "It was just one of those days that everything felt really good," Billingsley said. "Good tempo, good rhythm out there." Billingsley walked one and reached double digits in strikeouts for the ninth time in his career. He was on from the start, striking out the side in the first inning and again in the third. He had at least one strikeout in every inning except the eighth and ninth. "Tonight was probably as good as Ive seen him from start to finish, throwing the ball extremely well to both sides of the plate, and mixing pitches," Padres manager Bud Black said about Billingsley. The Padres committed two more errors, giving them five in the first two games. Theyve struck out 18 times in 18 innings. After being shut out 19 times last year, the most in the majors, it took just two games for them to get blanked this year. Ethier lined a double into the gap in right-centre with two outs in the first to bring in Mark Ellis and Juan Rivera, who singled. With two outs in the fifth, Ethier tripled off the fence in right-centre to score Matt Kemp, who had singled, and Rivera, who walked. That gave the Dodgers a 6-0 lead and chased Cory Luebke (0-1), who agreed late in spring training to a contract that could be worth $27.75 million if the Padres exercise his options for 2016 and 2017. "I didnt put them where I wanted," Luebke said about the pitches to Ethier. "Bad pitches at a bad time." The Dodgers also scored twice in the third inning, on three hits and two errors. Ellis doubled and Kemp beat out an infield single, with third baseman Chase Headleys throw pulling first baseman Yonder Alonso off the bag. As Ellis was sliding into home, Alonsos throw hit him for an error, which advanced Kemp to second. Luebkes errant pickoff throw allowed Kemp to advance, and he scored on Riveras single. NOTES: San Diegos poor fielding in the first two games comes after they posted a .985 fielding percentage in 2011, which tied for fourth in the NL and tied for sixth in the majors. ... Dont make the mistake of overlooking the other players around the Big 12s top-scoring freshman. Naadir Tharpe scored 22 points, nine in a go-ahead run before halftime, and the Big 12-leading Jayhawks rebounded from their first league loss with a 69-52 victory at Baylor on Tuesday night. "Weve just got to be a team that its going to be a different guy most every night," Self said. "And (Tharpe) stepped up when we needed him to step up." Early on, there were three ties and nine lead changes. Tharpes short jumper with 3 1/2 minutes left in the half broke a 25-all tie and put the Jayhawks (17-5, 8-1 Big 12) ahead to stay. The tiebreaking shot was Tharpes third basket in a 14-3 spurt over the final 5 minutes of the first half, and he added a 3-pointer with a minute left. He then made another 3 on Kansas opening possession after halftime. Wiggins, a native of Vaughan, Ont., finished 4-of-13 shooting and didnt make his first basket until a half-court shot to beat the buzzer going into halftime for a 35-27 lead. "Well, we ran that play for him at the end of the first half to get him going," Self joked of Wiggins, who finished two points off his season average. "It was big. It gave a great momentum push going into halftime," said Perry Ellis, who had 14 points and 10 rebounds. "It was great that he knocked that down. It got him going." Cory Jefferson had 14 points to lead Baylor (14-8, 2-7), which lost its fourth consecutive game at the Ferrell Center after a 13-game home winning streak. Its the longest home drought since dropping six straight in 2005. The Bears, coming off a win at then-No. 8 Oklahoma State that snapped their overall five-game losing streak, was trying to set up for a final shot before halftime when Kenny Chery threw an errant pass that Wiggins intercepted. "Round 1 is over in the league. We have to do betteer in Round 2," Baylor coach Scott Drew said.dddddddddddd "The good thing is I believe we can win every game, but with the Big 12 being like it is we can lose every game. We have to make sure we play well to have a chance to win." Baylor has never won consecutive games over Top 25 opponents. The Bears shot only 29 per cent from the field (16 of 55) -- Drew, looking for a positive, pointed out they did have assists on all but one of those made baskets. They were outrebounded 45-31. Kansas was coming off an 81-69 loss Saturday at surging Texas. "We just came out there without energy. I felt like even though Texas played that tremendous game out there, we kind of beat ourselves," said Tharpe, who sat the final 10 minutes of that game when had only three points on 1-of-4 shooting. "We didnt come out with any kind of energy, we had nothing. After they made a play, we had nothing coming back. So we knew coming into today in Waco, we had to come out with some fire right away. And thats what we did." In their regular season finale last March, the Jayhawks lost 81-58 at Baylor. They still had a share of their ninth consecutive Big 12 title, but that loss kept them from winning it outright. Baylor was within 49-44 midway through the second half and Wiggins had just shot and missed the rim. But the Bears missed three free throws on the same possession. Then, with Baylor students chanting "Air Ball!, Air Ball!", Wiggins swished a 3-pointer from the right wing. Wiggins scored again on the next possession to push the lead to 54-44, and had the next basket as well with a dunk with 7:49 left. Brady Heslip had 12 points on four 3-pointers, but didnt score again after his last gave Baylor a 22-21 lead with 6:34 left in the first half. "We were just playing him behind his numbers. We were running behind him," Tharpe said of second-half adjustments on Heslip. "We just knew that he got a lot of good looks off in the first half, and we couldnt let that happen again." cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

A Christmas wish for Canadas Major League Soccer teams - stability. With Vancouver Whitecaps and Montreal Impact appointing new head coaches last week, Toronto FCs Ryan Nelsen is now the longest serving manager of the three teams as he enters just his second season in charge of the club. Through seven seasons in MLS there has been constant change at Toronto FC both in management and playing personnel, while the Whitecaps and Impact are also yet to find the precious winning formula since joining the league. Carl Robinson was appointed as Martin Rennies successor in Vancouver last week as the Whitecaps named their third “permanent” head coach in as many MLS seasons. In Montreal, Frank Klopas was handed the job of replacing Marco Schallibaum as the Impact named the third head coach heading into just their third year in MLS. What all three clubs need now is stability. Robinson and Klopas were both handed multi-year contracts, and they need to be given time to implement a plan. Short-term success is desirable of course, but executing a plan that will make their teams playoff contenders for the long-term is much more important. Robinsons appointment was met with many plaudits within the game. Players from within the Whitecaps welcomed the promotion of the assistant coach and talked in glowing terms about his qualities, and those who have played alongside Robinson for club and country such as Arsenals Aaron Ramsey also voiced their belief that he will become a successful coach. I believe Robinson has all the qualities necessary to establish himself as a top coach in Major League Soccer, and hopefully he will be given the time and support from Whitecaps management to allow that to happen in Vancouver. At his introductory press conference, the former Welsh international made no secret of his desire to give younger players a chance in the first team. The Whitecaps have some excellent younger players coming through their Residency Program, along with those already in the team. The Whitecaps have the potential to be an exciting, young, attacking team next season, and Robinson seems to be the perfect person to lead the charge. Of course, it wont always be easy. A new head coach will make mistakes, and young players will lack consistency. It might take some time, but hopefully everyone connected to the club will support the plan and have patience in working towards long-term success. The departure of Marco Schallibaum in Montreal certainly came as no surprise after the Impact coach had been left in limbo following the clubs exit from the playoffs. Schallibaum got off to a fantastic start in Montreal before the team collapsed in the second half of the season, and the way they lost their discipline as they crashed out of the playoffs in Houston was totally unacceptable. In mid-summer, it seemed certain that Schallibaum would return to the club for a second season, but now the Impact will be heading in a different direction for the third successive season. In their expansion year it was Jesse Marsch – a young head coach with vast experience as a player in Major League Soccer. His record was pretty good, but in the end his vision for how to achieve success didnt match with that of the owner Joey Saputo and Sporting Director Nick De Santis. They wanted to regain the Impacts identity and hired an experienced head coach from Europe who had very little knowledge of MLS. At first it seemed like a master-stroke, but the trials of a long MLS season took its toll on both Schallibaum and his team. So now its season three, and a third different type of coach. This time the Impact have tried to find some middle ground. Frank Klopas has European experience spending some of his playing days in Greece, but he also has a deep knowledge of Major League Soccer having been a player and coach in the league for almost two decades. Klopas has the European background that Saputo and DeSantis were looking for when they hired Schallibaum, and also the MLS knowledge they wanted when they chose Marsch. Klopas also has the experience to be able to continue developing the younger coaches within the Impact staff. As with Robinson and the Whitecaps, Klopas needs to be given time in Montreal. As we enter the 2014 season, Ryan Nelsen in Toronto has the shortest leash of the coaches in charge of Canadas three teams. The New Zealander had a poor squad to work with and management upheaval in his first year as a head coach, but now those issues have gone. With Tim Leiweke and Tim Bezbatchenko in charge, the club finally seems to be moving in the right direction. The squad of players will be much improved, and Nelsen will get the support he needs from above. However, Nelsen knows he has to get things right on the pitch quickly. “They wont give me much more time,” he said in a New Zealand newspaper interview this week. Toronto FC needs success or the club is in danger of becoming irrelevant. Stability is key, but Toronto doesnt have the luxury of giving the coach time to work things out. With what we have seen so far this offseason from Leiweke and Bezbatchenko, its likely Nelsen could have the best squad ever assembled by TFC to start a season. With those pieces in place, the pressure will be firmly on the coach to get the team to perform from day one. http://www.nikeflyknittrainer.de/flyknit-roshe-one-deutschland/nike-roshe-one-flyknit-damen.html . OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Oklahoma City Thunder became familiar with Memphis grind-it-out defensive style while losing to the Grizzlies during last seasons NBA playoffs. On Monday night, the Thunder beat Memphis at its own game. Kevin Durant had 31 points, eight rebounds and eight assists, Serge Ibaka had 21 points and 12 rebounds and the Oklahoma City Thunder continued their home dominance, beating the Memphis Grizzlies 86-77. Oklahoma City (39-11) had a 10-game winning streak snapped Saturday at Washington, but the Thunder moved to 21-3 at home while winning their seventh straight game at Chesapeake Energy Arena. In doing so, the Thunder posted its second-best defensive outing of the season. Oklahoma Citys inside quartet of Ibaka, Kendrick Perkins, Steven Adams and Nick Collison combined to limit Memphis potent frontcourt duo of Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol Meanwhile, Thabo Sefolosha limited Memphis Courtney Lee -- who scored 24 points in the last meeting between the teams -- to 11 points. Memphis finished 2 of 16 from 3-point range. "I thought we did a good job of playing tough defensive basketball throughout the game," Oklahoma City coach Scott Brooks said. "One of the strengths of our team, obviously, is our versatility. I think tonight it showed that sometimes you have to play different styles of basketball to get a win." Randolph had 13 points and 13 rebounds and Gasol added 13 points for Memphis (26-21), which lost for the second time in 13 games. The Grizzlies had won six straight games, the NBAs longest winning streak entering Monday. "We didnt play the basketball that we normally play," Randolph said. "We made bad decisions at important times of the game. There were a lot of turnovers, including myself, but youve got to be smart. And weve got to hit shots." Coming off a remarkable January during which he averaged 35.9 points per game on 54.9-per cent shooting, Durant finished 11 of 21 from the field. Ibaka went 10 of 17 from the field and posted his 19th double-double of the season while helping lead the Thunders interior defence. Oklahoma City finished with nine blocked shots, four of those by Adams, a career high for the rookie from New Zealand. "Steven only had three points and five rebounds and Perk only had one point and eight rebounds, but both impacted the game," Brooks said. Memphis, which trailed by 17 points late in the first half, pulled within three points three times in the final 6:45, the last time at 78-75 after Lees driving 5-foot jumper with 4:54 left. Durant answered with a 14-foot jumper, then after an exchange of empty possessions, Sefolosha swished a 3-pointer and Durant followed with a steal and layup to give Oklahoma City an 85-75 cushion with 2:54 left. "That gave us a boost when he hit that shot," Durant said. The Thunder managed only one point after that, but the Grizzlies couldnt take advantage, scoring only on a follow shot by Randolph with 1:12 left. The Thunder used an 18-2 run near the end of the first half to take a 51-36 halftime lead. By halftime, Ibaka already had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. "We started the game great defensively and we built off of that," Durant said. "Offensively we played a little slow but we picked it up in that second quarter and built some momentum going into the second half." With a lineup of reserves, Oklahoma City didnt score for almost three minutes to start the fourth quarter, causing Brooks to reinsert Durant with 9:41 left. Durant promptly drew a foul on James Johnson and hit 1-of-2 free throws, then swished a 14-foot jumper from the left wing to put the Thunder up 72-63. "We played from too far behind," Memphis coach Dave Joerger said. "We gave them 51 points, lots of layups, in the first half. . It was very difficult for us. When you come back, you have a very small margin for error." Reggie Jackson started the game with two airballs but eventually finished with 12 points for Oklahoma City. Mike Miller added 11 points for Memphis. Notes: With starting point guard Mike Conley out with an ankle injury, Memphis signed G Darius Morris to a 10-day contract on Monday. Morris averaged 4.2 points and 1.6 assists in 22 games this season with the Philadelphia 76ers and Los Angeles Clippers. ... Memphis had a six-game road winning streak snapped. .. The Thunder recorded its 113th straight regular-season sellout, although there were some empty seats visible in the lower sections of Chesapeake Energy Arena. ... Lowry had 18 points, 13 assists and 10 rebounds for his fourth career triple-double, and DeMar DeRozan scored 34 points to help the Toronto Raptors beat the Philadelphia 76ers 104-95 on Friday night. "As long as its with a win, Im happy to have it," Lowry said. "Ill take the thanks from the team and congratulations from all my teammates. But as long as it came with a win, thats all that really matters." Lowry grabbed his 10th rebound late in the fourth quarter, continuing a string of strong games hes had for the Atlantic Division leaders. Hes a Philadelphia native and played two seasons at Villanova. He didnt get a chance to stop by his old school -- though current and former Wildcats had to be watching. Lowry was nearly flawless in his latest homecoming, and didnt commit his first turnover until there were about 2 minutes left in the game. He shot 7 of 11 and hit a trio of 3-pointers in 35 minutes to help keep the Raptors in control of the worst division in the NBA. "Its always special to play here," Lowry said. He had help putting the game away. DeRozan scored 16 points in the fourth, including seven straight early in the period as the Raptors opened a double-digit lead. In a game in which neither team could build much of a lead, DeRozan finally helped the Raptors take control in the final quarter. He had a dunk, hit a 3-pointer and nailed a mid-range jumper to give Toronto some breathing room. Patrick Pattersons jumper made it 96-83. The Sixers made a short run to close to 98-91 but didnt have enough left for one more rally. "When we got a chance to put a stronghold on it, we closed it out," Lowry said. The Raptors snapped a four-game losing streak on the road. DeRozan scored a career-high 40 points in Torontos 93-85 win over Dallas on Wednesday night. He connected on 15 of 22 field goal attempts and went 9 for 14 at the free throw line, becoming the seventh player in Raptors history to score 40 points or more.dddddddddddd Against the Sixers, DeRozan made 10 of 22 shots and 13 of 16 free throws. The Raptors moved to .500 on the road (11-11) and are 22-20 overall. But the other four teams in the division all have losing records, including Philadelphia, so theyve been good enough to sit atop the standings. The Raptors are 16-8 since they traded Rudy Gay. "They make the trade, and it ends up a little bit addition by subtraction in many ways," Sixers coach Brett Brown said. "They get a little bit more of an identity and a defensive purpose. And I thought they were really good. I always felt like they were a pretty good defensive team." Spencer Hawes had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the 76ers. Michael Carter-Williams scored 20. The Raptors opened the game on a 15-2 run, the Sixers countered with a 20-5 spurt, and from there it was pretty much even. "I liked the start. We had an excellent focus and sustained it as long as we could," Raptors coach Dwane Casey said. The Sixers could never get their perimeter game going, scoring 50 of their 78 points through three quarters in the paint. Philadelphia missed 14 of 20 3s overall. Thaddeus Young scored 16 points. "We got good shots, but just went cold," Young said. "Theyre just a good team. In the past, it was a point where, the Toronto Raptors walk in and its going to be an easy win. But they have a lot of key guys on that team that can do a lot of different things." NOTES: Sixers G Tony Wroten (right ankle) sat out. ... The Sixers signed C Dewayne Dedmon to a second 10-day contract. ... There were 12 lead changes and 15 ties. ... WASHINGTON - Aaron Harang outdueled Stephen Strasburg, Justin Upton drove in three runs and the Atlanta Braves avoided a series sweep in Washington with a 6-2 win over the Nationals on Wednesday. The Braves snapped a three-game losing streak as Harang (11-10) held the NL East leaders to one unearned run over seven innings. Uptons RBI single in the sixth broke a 1-all tie, and he added a two-run double off reliever Ryan Mattheus during a three-run seventh. Strasburg (11-11) allowed three runs and seven hits in six innings. Bryce Harper homered for Washington, which had won three straight. B.J. Upton homered for the wild card-contending Braves. Washington leads Atlanta by eight games in the division. Washington won the opening two games of the series, and success against Atlanta has been historically difficult for the Nationals and Strasburg. The Nationals dropped to 6-10 this season against the Braves, though they had won five of the previous seven games. They have not swept Atlanta in Washington since 2008. Strasburg has not earned a win against the Braves since Aug. 21, 2012. In four starts this season against Atlanta, the righty is 0-2 with a 7.18 ERA. The NL strikeout leader fanned eight, but lost for the first time since August 8. Strasburg entered with a 3-0 record in his previous five starts. Harang struggled recently, going 0-3 with a 7.98 ERA in his last three starts. That version didnt show Wednesday. He struck out nine and surrendered six while improving to 2-0 with an 0.90 ERA versus Washington this season. Kevin Frandsen had three singles for the Nationals. TRAINERS ROOM Braves: C Evan Gattis (strep throat) returned to the locker room after spending the previous two days at the teams hotel. Manager Fredi Gonzalez kept him out of Wednesdays lineup and said Gattis will likely serve as Atlantas designated hitter for the upcoming series in Texas. Nationals: 3B Anthony Rendon (illness) and SS Ian Desmond (back tightness) were kept out of the starting lineup. Desmond left Tuesdays game after five innings with back tightness. Nationals manager Matt Williams said the shortstop could have played Wednesday. UP NEXT Braves: LHP Alex Wood (10-10, 2.90) starts Friday against the Rangers. SAN FRANCISCO -- Michael Morse looked baffled after missing wildly on a wicked curve from Minnesota starter Ricky Nolasco in the fifth inning. It was one of the few pitches the Giants slugger guessed wrong on, and the last one from Nolasco he let get by. Morse hit a bases-loaded double on Nolascos next offering -- one of three doubles by San Franciscos first baseman -- helping the Giants to an 8-1 win over the Twins on Sunday that completed a three-game sweep. The crowd at AT&T Park gave Morse a loud ovation after the hit when his face was shown on the giant scoreboard in centerfield. "Moments like that make you feel so humble and happy that youre here," said Morse, who signed a one-year deal with San Francisco in the off-season. "Every day feels like the playoffs here. Its awesome." Madison Bumgarner pitched seven innings to remain unbeaten in May, Gregor Blanco had three hits while filling in for leadoff man Angel Pagan and Hunter Pence homered for the Giants, who improved to 6-0 in interleague games this year and improved their majors-leading record to 32-18. Bumgarner (6-3) earned his fourth straight win while relying mainly on his fastball and slider to baffle the slumping Twins. He struck out 10 with no walks and allowed only two runners past second base. "Madison was Madison," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "He had his normal stuff and pitched great." It was a far different result than Bumgarner got in his only other appearance against Minnesota in 2011 when the left-hander was knocked out of the game after retiring one batter. This time around, the left-hander was dominant. Bumgarner fanned Joe Mauer three times, recorded six consecutive strikeouts during one stretch and struck out the side in the fifth after getting called for a balk. Its just the fifth time in Mauers career that hes struck out three times against the same pitcher. George Kontos pitched the final two innings for San Francisco, which has won seven straight games against American League teams dating to 2013. "I for sure didnt forget about that," said Bumgarner, who reached double digits in strikeouts for the 15th time in his career. "There wasnt a wholee lot of talk about it but its something thats tough to forget, to go through a start like that one.dddddddddddd" Eduardo Escobar singled and scored Minnesotas only run in the third. "I dont think we had a hit with runners in scoring position and that never bodes well," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said. "Well try to find a way to get hits in the right places and win some ballgames." The Giants jumped on Twins starter Ricky Nolasco (2-5) early with a pair of bloop singles in the first and a run-scoring hit by Pablo Sandoval that left fielder Eduardo Nunez got a late jump on. Morses sacrifice fly made it 2-0. Pences home run in the bottom of the third gave the Giants a 3-1 lead. It was Pences sixth home run of the season and his fifth career shot off Nolasco. Morse doubled and scored in the fourth to snap a 2-for-14 slump and make it 4-1, then broke the game open with his bases-clearing hit in the fifth. San Franciscos power-hitting first baseman smiled and pumped his fist while standing on second base as the crowd at AT&T Park gave him a roaring standing ovation. That chased Nolasco, who had won in four of his six previous starts at the Giants waterfront ballpark. He allowed nine hits over 4 2-3 innings, struck out three and walked one. Minnesota scored its lone run in the third on back-to-back singles and a sacrifice fly from Brian Dozier. The Twins, who were outscored 16-4 in the series, managed just three baserunners over the final six innings and were swept for the third time this season. Mauer snapped his skid with a single off Kontos in the ninth but was replaced by a pinch-runner. NOTES: Minnesota announced plans to activate Josh Willingham off the disabled list Monday after the veteran outfielder missed 41 games with a fractured left wrist. The team also plans to call up OF Oswaldo Arcia. To make room, the Twins will option backup C Chris Herrmann and IF Chris Colabello to the minors. ... PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks have extended the contracts of manager Kirk Gibson and general manager Kevin Towers. Contracts for both had been set to expire after the coming season. The team would not divulge the lengths of the contracts or even whether the lengths were the same for both. Team President Derrick Hall said after Mondays announcement that Gibson and Towers asked that the length of the deals be kept secret. "I dont understand why the contracts of people in management are public knowledge," Towers said. "Its between myself, Derrick, (managing general partner) Ken (Kendrick) and Gibby." Last October, the team declined to exercise options to extend both contracts, but Hall said he has felt all along that the Diamondbacks shouldnt go into the season with the two facing the last year of their deals. "Theres constant distraction and a labeling of whos on the hot seat," Hall said, "Are they feeling the pressure?" Besides, Hall said, "These are guys I have a lot of confidence in." In fact, Hall said he probably would have preferred to have the extensions in place sooner. He said that when the contracts werent extended last fall, it was with the understanding that there would be talks on a new deal for both. Gibson and Towers have had three full seasons together, and their most successful was their first. The Diamondbacks won 94 games in 2012 and took the NL West title before falling to Milwaukee in five games in the divisional playoffs. Arizona has gone 81-81 each of the past two seasons. "Im certainly very excited," Towers said, "as is Gibby. This is a place where we hope we get to spend the rest of our careers at." Gibson, a standout football player at Michigan State, played 17 seasons in the majors, 12 with the Detroit Tigers. He signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1988, earning the NL most valuable player award. In the playoffs that season, he hit one of the most memorable home runs in World Series history. Playing virtually on one leg because of a severe knee injury, Gibson hit a game-winning, two-run home run off Oaklands Dennis Eckersley in Game 1, limping around the bases and pumping his fist in triumph. The Dodgers went on to win the series. Gibson was hired as Arizonas bench coach in 2007 and was named interim manager when A.J. Hinch was fired on July 1, 2010. Towers, former GM of the San Diego Padres, came on board as general manager in September of that year, and one of his first decisions was whether to keep Gibson as manager. He did and the team went on to have that highly successful 2010 season. But the Diamondbacks stumbled the next two seasons in the vastly improved NL West, with pitching-rich San Francisco winning in 2012 and the just-plain-rich Dodgers taking it in 2013. Towers said he wants to develop "a ball club that not only has a chance to win the NL West but hopefully go deep into the post-season." "I dont take these things lightly," he said. "There are only 30 of these jobs." He said that the jobs "arent easy" and require the confidence of the clubs top executives and ownership. Towers said that going into the final year of a contract probably would have been more of a distraction for Gibson, given the high public profile of the managers job and his duties directing a teams day-to-day operation. Pitchers and catchers report for spring training at the Diamondbacks Scottsdale facility on Thursday. They are the first team to begin spring training because of Arizonas early season-opening two-game series against the Dodgers in Australia. Towers has said the team wants to acquire a No. 1 starter, but added on Monday "theres not too many of those guys out there." "The markets not the same as it was two months ago," he said. What history? The Seahawks kept Crabtree and quarterback Colin Kaepernick off balance all night. He said he was throwing to the open man. He didnt care who was out there, Sherman said of Kaepernick. I was the open man.Russell Wilson threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Robert Turbin in the first quarter, and the Seahawks (8-4) won by the same score as their victory over first-place Arizona five days earlier.Big wins, division opponents, and these games count as two to me, safety Earl Thomas said. Were playing together, man. Thats whats so powerful. ... It felt good, it felt like we were alive. Here are five things of note from the Seahawks first visit to new $1.3 billion Levis Stadium:BIG-GAME SHERMAN: It was 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh who turned Sherman into a defensive back during his days at Stanford. Now, hes one of the best.Sherman had the fourth two-interception game of his career with his 22nd and 23rd picks since 2011, most in the NFL.Might these games mean just a little more to Sherman? It could, Seahawks outside linebacker Bruce Irvin said. That was his college coach, the Crabtree incident last year. Im pretty sure beating the Niners means a lot more to him than the rest of us.ANGRY OWNER: In the waning momeents with thousands of red seats already empty, 49ers CEO Jed York posted on Twitter: Thank you (hashtag)49ersfaithful for coming out strong tonight.dddddddddddd This performance wasnt acceptable. I apologize for that.Kaepernick, whose team has reached three straight NFC title games, couldnt argue. San Francisco (7-5) had a three-game winning streak snapped. Its not acceptable, he said. We didnt perform well. We have a much higher standard for ourselves. ... We have to win out in order to have a shot to get into the playoffs.Even general manager Trent Baalkes daughter, Cassie, apparently got into the Twitter discussion about the teams struggles, calling out offensive co-ordinator Greg Roman. The tweet was quickly removed.Greg Roman can take a hike..the 49ers dont want you no more, the tweet said.NO-SHOW OFFENSE: Left tackle Joe Staley didnt mince words about how awful San Franciscos offence was.We had zero good plays. Zero, Staley said. The 49ers were held to three points or fewer for the first time since a 29-3 Week 2 loss at Seattle last year. And they still must face the Seahawks in 17 days at CenturyLink Field.Kaepernick had the second-lowest passer rating of his career at 36.7, with his only lower mark a 20.1 at Seattle last year. Kaepernick was 16 of 29 for 121 yards, and the 49ers were outgained 379-164.Weve got to reboot, come back and win them all, Harbaugh said.WHAT HOME FIELD? Much of the crowd went home early, so it hardly felt like much of an advantage for the 49ers with any kind of additional noise level.Nothing like what Seattle is used to with its deafening 12th Man. Sherman not only criticized the home crowd for leaving early, but also for yelling vulgar insults throughout. He said someone tossed a bottle as the Seahawks left the field after the game.It didnt matter if we were on the road or not, Thomas said. We silenced the crowd.PENALTY FEST: This one could have been far more lopsided.Seattle committed 14 penalties for 105 yards, including an offensive pass interference by Turbin that negated Paul Richardsons 7-yard touchdown catch midway through the third quarter.Other than this game being a penalty game we pretty much did what were able to do, so it was really good, coach Pete Carroll said. All I can tell you is were working at it. Were playing really hard and really aggressive, so its kind of like last year. Were pretty good at leading and last year, too, in penalties.___AP NFL website: www.pro32.ap.org and http://twitter.com/AP_NFL cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The last time Anderson Silva clowned around in the octagon, Chris Weidman dropped him on his back and took away his UFC middleweight title. Although Silva is serious about getting his belt back in the main event at UFC 168 on Saturday night, the Brazilian wont say whether hell drop the carefree style that has defined his career. At UFC 162 last July, Silva (33-5) was pretending to be hurt when Weidman (10-0) actually cold-cocked him for a stunning victory. The result upended the MMA hierarchy, catapulting Long Islands Weidman to stardom and ending Silvas near seven-year title reign. "Maybe I have the chance to change things," Silva said at his gym in Torrance, Calif., this month. Silva believes he can reverse the result in the rematch, but he wont swear off the taunting and goofiness that has become his signature alongside his unmatched striking abilities. In fact, Silva doesnt even see his style as anything less than serious. "When I go inside the ropes for a fight, I dont joke," said the fighter known for standing with hands on hips and chin protruding, daring opponents to hit him. "I train hard mentally for this fight," Silva added. "I watched the last fight, and I see my technique, and I talk to my friends and coach. I dont train too much. My mental (approach), I change. It was bad." The 38-year-old Silvas attempt to right a late-career mistake is the most intriguing aspect of the UFCs traditional year-end show at the MGM Grand Garden, but its hardly the only attraction on a stacked pay-per-view card. Bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will be nothing but serious when she returns to the cage after a 10-month absence for a rematch with Miesha Tate, her despised rival. Veteran heavyweights Josh Barnett and Travis Browne also meet on the main card. While Rousey (7-0) is one of the UFCs biggest stars, she already beat Tate (13-4) with her signature armbar in the Strikeforce promotion last year. All eyes in Vegas will be focused on Silva, an even bigger star who put his career at a crossroads with his loss to Weidman, a formidable wrestler who proved his striking skills with that left hook to Silvas head. Yet Ed Soares, Silvas longtime manager, doesnt expect Silva to fight stiffly or formally in the rematch. "Why would he change? He wouldnt change," Soares said. "Its him. Its like asking Kobe not to shoot a certain way." Under normal circumstances, the method of Weidmans victory — a second-round knockout of a long-reigning champ — would have cemented the Hofstra alumnus as a major star. And while Weidman has grown in stature, Silvas silly mistake got even more attention than the man who forced it. Yet Silva isnt among those discounting Weidmans achievement and expecting Silva to resume his spot on top of the middleweight division. "Chris is the champion, and people need to respect that," Silva said. "Hes a good man. Has a great family. Hes a great champion." Silva trained at his gym in an industrial corner of Torrance. Although tucked into a quiet office park behind a refinery next to auto body shops and a telescope manufacturer, Silvas American home base can be spotted by the Bentley out front next to the big photos of himself. After two years of training in his self-created American base, Silva clearly has a comfortable life. He could walk away from a victory at UFC 168 with his legacy secure and enough money to watch his children grow up in style. Silva doesnt appear to be thinking about retirement, repeatedly mentioning he has eight fights left on his UFC contract. Yet he also recognizes the dangers of his chosen sport when asked whether he would allow any of his children to follow his path into MMA. "I dont like the idea of my sons fighting," Silva said. "Its too much danger. I dont have the heart for this. Im an old man." Cameron Payne Jersey . DETROIT -- Desperation fueled the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night. David Legwand had a goal and an assist, and Detroit held off the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 to move into seventh place in the Eastern Conference. The Red Wings are trying to stretch their playoff streak to 23 seasons, the longest such active streak in North American professional sports. "We got to find to find a way to win some games here to get in. Weve got Washington breathing down our necks and Columbus is right with us here, and Torontos in the mix too," said Gustav Nyquist, who extended his point streak to nine games with his 27th goal. "... Everyones going to be playing for their playoff lives here. Its a good thing we have it in our own hands at least." Jonas Gustavsson stopped 26 shots and Joakim Andersson also scored for Detroit, which won 4-2 in Toronto on Saturday night. "Its huge obviously to get four points on a back-to-back weekend is big," Legwand said. "Especially the race is so tight and if we can start gaining some ground here and getting some traction well be all right." It was Mike Babcocks 411th win as the Red Wings coach. He passed Scotty Bowman and moved into second place in franchise history behind Jack Adams (413). "Scottys the greatest coach of all time in our business. The way the business was then and the way it is now, to have the amount of wins Scotty has is impossible and youre not going to get to coach so many Stanley Cup champions," Babcock said. "Youre not able to keep teams together like they used to. Scotty should be in a class by himself." Valtteri Filppula and Sami Salo scored for Tampa Bay and Ben Bishop made 27 saves. "We played a pretty good game. ... Got a solid 60 minutes, but didnt get the result we wanted," Lightning centre Steven Stamkos said. "Theyre a good team and they played desperate game." Salo scored his fourth goal to pull Tampa Bay within 3-2 with 4:29 left in the third. Legwand made it 3-1 with a power-play goal with 3:24 left in the second period, tipping in Johan Franzens shot for his 13th goal. Nyquist gave the Red Wings a 2-1 lead with 4:36 remaining in the opening period with his spectacular goal. He was being bothered by Lightning defenceman Matthew Carle on a breakaway and after Carle thwarted the initial attempt, Nyquist slid in a shot from along the goal line. Legwand got the assist. "Leggy (Legwand) made a real nice play up the middle and I just tried to get good body position on the D-man there to get an opportunity to score," Nyquist said. "Made that last move to my backhand and noticed that the goalie was out of the net. I lost the puck a little bit and it went behind the goal line there. I was hoping the goalie was still out of the net on the other side so I just tried to spin and get it on net as fast as possible. Nice to see it go in." Nyquist has 11 goals and two assists during his streak, and 22 goals in his last 27 games. Andersson tied the game at 1 with 8:52 left in the first period when he put in a rebound for his eighth goal. It was his first goal in 20 games. Filppula gave Tampa Bay a 1-0 lead 8:40 into the game on the Lightnings second shot. He beat Gustavsson from the high slot on a wrist shot for his 25th goal. He stretched his point streak to 12 games (five goals and 11 assists). Tampa Bay didnt get its first shot until 8:17 into the game. Anze Kopitar scored the third of three goals in a six-minute stretch of the third period Saturday to give Slovenia a surprising 3-1 victory over the usually steady Slovaks in its first Olympic hockey tournament. After two evenly played periods, the Slovenes were stronger and seemed more inspired in the third. Rok Ticar broke a scoreless tie 3:23 into the final period. Tomaz Razingar scored midway through the third and Kopitar, the only NHL player on his team, scored 23 seconds later. A knee to the thigh might have stung him the most, but his sixth straight double-double made up for the brief burst of pain.COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. -- Greg Maddux and Tony La Russa will not have logos on their Hall of Fame plaques. The decision was announced Thursday by the Hall, which said Joe Torres plaque will have the logo of the New York Yankees. Plaques for Tom Glavine and Bobby Cox will have Atlanta Braves logos, and Frank Thomas will have the logo of the Chicago White Sox. The six will be inducted during ceremonies on July 27. The managers were elected last month by the Halls expansion-era committee and the players were chosen this month by the Baseball Writers Association of America. Of the 300 previous Hall members, 86 have caps with logos and 42 dont have caps. Maddux began his big league career with the Chicago Cubs from 1986-92, winning the first of his four Cy Young Awards in his final season at Wrigley Field. He was with the Braves from 1993-03, winning Cy Youngs in his first three seasons in Atlanta, then returned to the Cubs from 2004-06. He also played for the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres from 2006-08. "I feel good about it, I spent half my career in Chicago and half of my career in Atlanta," Maddux said during a news conference in Arlington, Texas. "I love both places. Obviously, I feel like I had more success as a Brave. We did get a World Series there, but I kind of came up a Cub. For me, I couldnt pick. I really couldnt. ... So Im going to go in neutral, I guess." Hall President Jeff Idelson said a logo makes sense for those "whose most compelling contributions clearly took place with one team" and not having a team logo is "equally acceptable" for those whose careers were built significantly among multiple teams. "Regardless of the selection, a Hall of Famer belong to every team for which he played or managed, as well as every fan who followed his career," Idelson said. La Russa managed the Chicago White Sox (1979-86), Oakland (1986-95) and St. Louis (1996-11), winnning World Series titles in 1989, 2006 and 2011.dddddddddddd. "The Chicago White Sox gave me my start in the game as a big league manager for my first eight seasons in my 33-year managerial career," La Russa said. "In Oakland, we recorded four first-place finishes in 10 years, winning three pennants and a World Series. And in St. Louis, our clubs won three pennants and two titles in 16 years. Its the totality of the success of each of those three teams that led me to Cooperstown, so I am choosing to not feature a logo so that fans of all clubs can celebrate this honour with me." Torre managed the Yankees from 1996-07, winning Series titles in 1996 and from 1998-00. He also managed the New York Mets (1997-81), Atlanta (1982-84), St. Louis (1990-95) and the Dodgers (2008-10). "When I became the manager of the New York Yankees, it was an opportunity to realize my lifelong dream of winning the World Series," Torre said. "We were fortunate enough to succeed in our first season in 1996, and in the years that followed, we wrote some great new chapters in Yankee history." Decisions were relatively simple for the others. Glavine pitched for the Braves from 1987-02 and in 2008, spending 2003-07 with the Mets. Choosing the Braves was easy for Glavine, who said he knew it had to be a tough decision for Maddux because of his time with the Cubs. Still, Glavine is surprised about Maddux choosing no logo. "It still was a lot of fun for me to be his teammate," Glavine said before the annual dinner of the Boston chapter of the BBWAA. Cox managed the Braves from 1978-81, managed Toronto from 1982-85, then returned to Atlanta as general manager. He became the Braves manager again in 1990 and stayed through 2010, leading Atlanta to 14 straight division titles and a World Series championship in 1995. Thomas was with the White Sox from 1990-05, then split 2006-08 between Oakland and Toronto. cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '

The Oakland As, owners of the best run differential in the majors, have taken over top spot in the TSN.ca MLB Power Rankings, ahead of the Toronto Blue Jays and San Francisco Giants. The As have scored 296 runs -- most in baseball -- while allowing 181, the fewest in baseball. Their plus-115 run differential is 56 runs ahead of second-best San Francisco. Among those moving up this week, the Chicago White Sox are up from 16 to 10 with rookie first baseman Jose Abreu returning to the lineup, and the Washington Nationals are up from 19 to 13, in part because of the effectiveness of starting pitcher Doug Fister, who was injured to start the year. The New York Mets skyrocket from 26 to 15, with one 14-inning loss their only blemish in the past seven games. The Texas Rangers creep up from 21 to 16 and the Boston Red Sox, winners of seven straight before Mondays loss, jump from 28 to 20. Heading the other way, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim couldnt hold top spot for long, going from one to five, after getting swept soundly by the As. The slumping Philadelphia Phillies sink from 18 to 25 and the Tampa Bay Rays drop seven spots, from 22 to 29, after losing seven straight along with a couple of starters to the injured list. PITTSBURGH -- Since Jerome Bettis retired after the 2005 NFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers have searched for a big, bruising running back in his mould. The list of hopefuls has been long, if not particularly distinguished. Verron Haynes, Najee Davenport, Carey Davis, Gary Russell, Frank Summers, Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman all failed to consistently provide production in short-yardage and goal line situations. Enter LeGarrette Blount. The 6-foot, 250-pound veteran certainly looks the part. And while he has a long way to go to be mentioned with the likes of Bettis, there have been plenty of flashes during his four seasons in the league. Blount averaged 5.0 yards per carry while splitting time with Stevan Ridley in New England last season, and gashed the Indianapolis Colts for 166 yards and four touchdowns in the playoffs. Though second-year back LeVeon Bell remains the starter, Blount is confident he can make an impact no matter what situation. "I know they brought me in here to run the football, so I hope there are plenty of carries to go around," Blount said Wednesday. "I know that LeVeon is going to get his fair share, so I hope theres enough for all of us." Bell, last years second-round pick, missed the opening three games while recovering from a preseason foot injury. But he still played nearly 700 snaps, a heavy workload the 6-foot-1, 230-pound Bell managed with ease. Still, the Steelers will find opportunities to go from the patient and pragmatic Bell to the bruising Blount, with the emphasis on bruising. "Thats my running style," Blount said. "Thats how I run the football, and I feel like (Bell) is also a big, tough running back, too. So, thats just how this team is built, with a physical running game, and I think thats what theyre trying to get back to. So, hopefully, we can do that." Blount noted a balannced offence is needed to make a run to the Super Bowl such as the ones by Seattle and Denver last year.dddddddddddd The champion Seahawks had Marshawn Lynch running the ball and Russell Wilson throwing it, while the Broncos ran the ball with Knowshon Moreno when Peyton Manning wasnt breaking NFL passing records. "I think its huge for us to (sign Blount), because Ive always said that we need to be a balanced offence," quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said. "So, we need to run the ball. We need to be great at running the ball, and weve got guys that want to be great at running the ball. So, hopefully, we can do it and do it successfully." Blount added that while his body type and size make him an ideal power back, he has a variety of skill sets, such as catching the football and running away from defenders in the open field. But he certainly has proven he can run over them as well. Those attributes, combined with Bells slashing style, should give the Steelers a solid one-two punch. "I think we have a really good mix of running backs," Blount said. "(But) Ive seen the NFL Network, and they have these top 10 or top five running back duos in the NFL. I noticed that were not one of them, and I dont like it. In all honesty, I believe theyre downgrading the skill level that we have in our backfield. . I think thats kind of disrespectful." Does that mean Blount and Bell have something to prove? "Were not going to go out here and go on about how were not in that group," Blount said. "But were going to go out there and show that we belong there with our performance." NOTES: RB Dri Archer has missed the opening two OTAs, just like linebacker Jordan Zumwalt from UCLA, because his school is on the quarters system and their class has not yet graduated. . OTAs continue Thursday and also run Tuesday through Thursday next week. cheap nfl jerseys wholesale jerseys cheap jerseys cheap jerseys wholesale jerseys ' ' '
